I met Nikki in the 8th grade. We attended Middle and High School together and eventually became good friends. In school, Nikki was part of the "in" crowd and was ALWAYS the life of the party. She ALWAYS had a smile and could make you laugh so hard your stomach would hurt. On the surface, Nikki was a success.
She graduated with an Engineering Degree from Missouri Western University, and landed a great job that she enjoyed at the City of Kansas City. She had lots of friends, attended and volunteered at her church for a variety of ministries and enjoyed spoiling other people's children on birthdays or special events.
With all the great things Nikki had going on in her life, she had one well guarded secret - Nikki was living with bipolar disorder. As a result, Nikki had many health struggles over the years. Interestingly, Nikki and I had spoken at different times about her desire if anything should happen to her -- she wanted me to know exactly what she wanted to do with her money! Of course, she wanted to share with her family, but even more important, she wanted to help students like her, have it a little easier while in college. Nikki also loved animals, the homeless and technology.
She was very generous in life and through the Nikki Deona Dennis Scholarship Fund, she will continue to make an impact on the community and in the world! Nikki attended Melcher Elementary School, thus the gift of Music Scholarships for those students.
