FUNDING
GRANTS AND SPONSORSHIPS

Program & Funding Eligibility

The Nia Project offers Grants and Sponsorships, with application opens May 1st with a deadline of June 29, 2025.
  • We want to support the community by offering general support grants for up to $1,250 to invest in groups who work to improve the confidence, capacity and opportunity for black girls and women.
  • Groups are funded based on the strength of their overall application. Awards can be used to best meet your group’s needs. Groups can only be funded once per 12-month period.
  • We welcome requests to be table or event sponsors for events that align with our mission.

The Nia Project is interested in groups that focus on capacity building opportunities for black girls and women and:
  • Community led and based – represented by those most affected by the issue
  • Implement community- based solutions to address education, cultural consciousness, food insecurity, mental health & wellness, childcare, housing and entrepreneurship.
  • Social and/or restorative justice programming
  • Introduce the arts, culture and healing work, with a particular focus on art forms that highlight the African Diaspora.

Eligible organizations must:
  • have an organizational budget under $250,000 per year
  • be based in Kansas City, Missouri
  • be founded or lead by a black woman
  • be an organization with 501(c)3 status as determined by the IRS
  • have dedicated service or programming focused on the special needs of black girls or women

The Nia Project does not fund:
  • research projects
  • operating funds and past debt
  • individuals
  • legal defense
  • capital campaigns, capital projects, or endowments
  • other foundations or grant-giving organizations

Please send your request to [email protected] with relevant information about your organization and program or funding need(s). Request should not be any longer than two pages. Be sure to describe the program(s) the funding will support and expected number of girls that will benefit. In the subject line of email, please indicate, Funding Request.
