Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world."  —   Harriet Tubman

Nia Projects Overview

The Nia Project KC puts a twist on traditional volunteer service. Nia Projects are broken up into smaller chunks, with specific beginning and end dates, to allow volunteers and supporters to get in where they fit in. It is our hope, that at some point, we will offer an opportunity that every one in the community can participate in!
Show Me The Money! Raise money and awareness to support 501c3 organizations, and individuals doing impactful work that benefit girls and women, especially those where traditional support may be difficult through grants, scholarships, internships, and special initiative funding.

A Nia Project - is a public community service event that brings multiple individuals, neighborhoods, churches and organizations together to address a single issue. It could be building a playground, cleaning a neighborhood, or building a room on a house. The boundaries for a Nia Project encompass the Kansas City Missouri School District.

Where Women Gather - is a meeting or series of meetings, especially created to engage and encourage black women. Topics could range from how to care for black hair, to understanding how to advocate for your child in school, to inviting special guest speakers to address an important issue disproportionately affecting our community. Earlier this year, when the community was concerned about sex trafficking, the Nia Project partnered with Keith Brown to Host a Community Information session and invited KCPD, FBI and Department of Justice to address questions and concerns.

Quarterly Magazine - a magazine devoted to the goodness of black girls and women, written and edited by black girls and women. We need help coming up with a fitting name!  A contest perhaps?

Black Women Get Fit - An annual health and wellness event, created by and for black women, that brings experts in a variety of areas that address the unique needs of our minds, bodies and soul.  In 2021, we will be celebrating our 4th Annual Event and have plans to make it the biggest yet - we deserve it after making it through COVID-19 in 2020!

Summer School - A dedicated summer school program for middle school girls (6th, 7th, 8th) focused on reading, math, leadership, entrepreunership.   The entrepreunership venture (TBD) will provide hands-on opportunity to introduce and teach the girls critical educational and life skills that prepare them for the most critical time in their lives, high school. Girls will have the opportunity to join a network that will be available to them as they move through high school.

Quality of Life Report - How are girls & women in Kansas City REALLY doing? We want to survey, look at local and national data and see how living in Kansas City stacks up and then see how activities can be harnessed to move the needle.

A Conference Center - Our Ultimate Vision dedicated to empowering and supporting black girls and women, providing dedicated space for nurturing, learning and ushering in transformative change for the community. Think UMKC's Diastole, with a twist.
